The Senior Communications Manager will work with the US Communications Group as well as US and global marketing and business development colleagues. This position will provide support on day-to-day communications activity, including media relations, awards and rankings, bios and digital marketing.

We are seeking a candidate with a public relations or communications background and experience in a corporate environment, preferably in professional services.

This individual will supervise a Communications Coordinator. In addition, the senior manager will support the US Director and Global Head of PR and Communications by providing strategic thinking and tactical support of initiatives. These initiatives include:

  • Enhancing the public profile of the firm
  • Providing media relations support to lawyers
  • Promoting collaboration across the global practice

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify publicity opportunities to highlight the firm, its lawyers and its practices
  • Write press releases and engage with media to maximize related coverage
  • Work with firm leadership to approve media interaction with lawyers and firm spokespeople
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with editors and reporters from various publications
  • Prepare lawyers for interviews with the media
  • Work closely with partners and business development colleagues to write and place legal successes on the firm’s internal and external websites
  • Write persuasive pitches for key legal, business and trade publications to place bylined articles and features
  • Work with US Director and Global Head of PR and Communications to develop key messages on a variety of firm issues
  • Support firm’s social media efforts
  • Develop and maintain firm media contact lists
  • Develop and track editorial calendars of national, local and industry media outlets
  • Oversee firm and lawyer award nominations, including determining eligibility, coordinating with relevant stakeholders (firm leadership, practice leaders, pro bono and diversity leaders), developing content and editing submissions
  • Oversee firm’s participation in key legal and business publication surveys, working with wider business development, human resources, local office administration teams to determine answers and submit leadership-approved responses
  • Work with lawyers to create their firm biographies
  • Contribute to firm’s weekly internal newsletter
  • Work closely with the branding and creative teams to produce and deliver internal and external web stories and video messages to personnel
  • Manage and contribute to a variety of marketing and communications projects
  • Perform a regular review of external communications best practices

Qualifications and job-related skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism or related field
  • Seven plus years in public/media relations or related field
  • Superior verbal, writing, editing and organizational skills are required
  • The job requires good analytical, project management and communication skills
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving ability
  • Must be able to produce high quality work and meet strict deadlines
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications
