Nurse Paralegal

The Houston office is seeking a highly-motivated, self-directed Registered Nurse with at least seven years of experience in any of the following nursing areas: critical care, labor and delivery, ER, and/or med-surg. The ideal candidate will have acquired experience with the litigation process and expertise through the analysis of medical records and the assessment of liability issues, including discovery. Experience in healthcare regulatory requirements, standards of care, risk management and/or quality improvement is preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage large volume of patient specific record retrieval including preparation of requests, review of subpoenas, statements of assurance and depositions on written questions, obtaining HIPAA compliant authorizations and communication regarding all of same with record retrieval companies
  • Utilize nursing and litigation expertise to prepare extensive, detailed medical chronologies based on patient specific records
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel to prepare medical specials/claims spreadsheets and treater and record source data
  • Study and compile medical records, literature, discovery, legal documents and summaries and/or charts of same to assist attorneys through deposition and trial
  • Prepare all records for use in discovery and trial
  • Conduct research on healthcare providers, treaters, and fact witnesses to identify same for discovery and trial; expert witnesses in addition to fact witnesses, treaters, etc.
  • Utilize nursing and litigation expertise to identify and evaluate nursing and medical experts
  • Prepare deposition summaries
  • Maintain databank of client policies, procedures, agreements, and institutional records
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  •  CLNC or LNCC required
  •  Minimum of seven years of professional experience
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  •  Proven organizational skills with the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  •  Flexibility in work schedule and willingness to work overtime a necessity
  •  Strong ability to multi-task 
  •  Must possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills 
  •  Strong oral and written communication skills (e.g. grammar/spelling/proofreading) with strong  attention to detail 
  •  Demonstrated strength in interacting and communicating with colleagues at all levels, within and outside the organization
  •  Ability to interact well with clients, department leadership and support staff\
  •  High regard for confidentiality and quality work product
