The Senior Manager, Innovation is focused on improving client experience through internal and external innovations.  External offerings include technology and process offerings with which clients directly interact.  Internal innovations include process and technology improvements to drive efficiency and value for clients.

The role reports to the Chief Practice Services Officer and will require extensive collaboration across legal teams, business services departments and with clients based in the United States.  The role is ideally based in Houston, Texas though moderate travel may be required to support the other fee-earning teams at offices throughout US.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Improve delivery of legal services to clients through existing and new technologies, process improvements and unique problem solving, including design thinking, legal workflows, and process mapping and automation.
  • Work with practice groups, firm lawyers, and technology teams to identify opportunities to improve legal solutions
  • Engage clients (internal and external) to better understand their needs, develop relationships and collaborate to create more effective and efficient ways to deliver services
  • Guide lawyer understanding and presentation of solutions from perspective of client needs
  • Improve delivery of legal services to clients through existing and new technologies, process improvements and unique problem solving, including design thinking, legal workflows, and process mapping and automation.
  • Collaborate with Marketing teams to build consistent messaging around technology and innovation and develop and maintain collateral describing firm and client innovation solutions
  • Identify and select from available technology solutions such as legal project management, knowledge management, IT, pricing, eDiscovery/practice support, legal service centers, flexible resourcing, and artificial intelligence; drive development of new solutions as needed
  • Work closely with the LPM team to analyze and critique the current phases and tasks of specific legal services, to ‘think outside the box’ in the use of technology, redeployment of staff or operating models to accelerate the firm’s capabilities in these areas to best in class
  • Develop business cases to support innovation initiatives and measure ROI
  • Work closely with global innovation team to maximize sharing of information and software

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or legal/consulting experience preferred
  • Tenacious focus on adding value for clients
  • Proven track record of innovation, preferably with experience in legal or consulting services
  • Ability to champion innovation to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences, including teaching, coaching, and mentoring junior staff
  • Long-term vision, with ability to plan and execute shorter-term solutions
  • Personable with excellent communication skills
