Business Development Manager, Corporate Finance and Latin America

The Business Development (BD) Manager will be responsible for supporting day-to-day and strategic marketing and business development activity for the Latin America offices as well as the US and LatAm corporate finance practice team, including business planning, budgets, credentials, pitches, presentations, events, online content and publications, with a particular focus on Latin American business. In addition this individual will also support the wider Business practice on strategic projects and initiatives as directed.

The successful candidate will generate, advise on and drive forward development of key strategic business development initiatives and campaigns, with particular focus on raising the external profile of our Latin America offices; and on identifying opportunities to leverage the significant growth of our local services within corporate finance, project finance, energy M&A, disputes and the energy industry generally.

We are looking for a candidate who is an established Marketing/Business Development (‘BD’) Manager; who has a strong understanding of professional services; someone who can quickly build rapport with key stakeholders; can work independently; has experience of building relationships across offices and regions; and has the confidence and insight to take a view of direction on behalf of stakeholders.

This position reports into the Director of Business Development, Practices.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Devise a practical BD strategy for developing business in the practice and the LatAm region; this strategy comprises business development, marketing and communications activities to deliver on the business priorities of revenue generation, profile development and opportunity realization
  • Develop positioning statements, compelling themes, value propositions and other key messaging to drive awareness and recognition and to enhance the brand perception for the firm
  • Prepare and produce bespoke bids, panel pitches and other client development presentations, including drafting and editing text; coordinating international contributions to opportunities (such as CVs, team details, experience, etc.), ensuring adherence to brand guidelines; and maintaining the library of practice relevant bid content; tracking success ratio of same
  • Manage the production and updating of practice experience statements, marketing collateral and brochures
  • Ensure all marketing communications channels are exploited to convey consistent messages about the region, our expertise and experience (including but not limited to web, collateral, bids, experience statements, directories, league tables, CVs)
  • Maintain awareness of relevant global and local marketing products (e.g. from sector or regional programs) which can be used for client development and dialogue
  • Event support and delivery in collaboration with the in-house events team for industry conference sponsorships, client presentations and seminars, client dinners and other events related to the promotion of the practices
  • Draft submissions for major awards, comprehensive survey response campaigns and other initiatives to further the awareness and positioning for this industry
  • Work with the central key client team and provide strategic input to the management of sector opportunities with global key clients
  • Coordinate the development and publicizing of thought leadership, client alerts and articles, in cooperation with the central communications team where necessary
  • Ensure that the objectives and activities of the LatAm region are aligned with those of the wider global Energy team, with an integrated approach taken to identifying and developing common opportunities and clients
  • Manage the budget process in terms of tracking spend against budget allocation, measuring and reporting on return on investment and evaluating efficiencies
  • Coordinate contributions and input into business development systems including InterAction (contact management database),  bids and experience, and CV databases for supporting initiatives such as bids, events, client intelligence, experience statement compilation, league table and legal directory submissions
  • Integrate the use of these systems into all activity according to best practice


Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum 6 years relevant experience in a professional services or business sector environment; ideally with some understanding of law firms
  • Demonstrable experience in managing and writing credential statements and bids
  • Experience managing relationships and delivering work product across offices and regions
  • Understands when to act and when to ask
  • Understands the need and has the ability to manage expectations
  • Good attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Confident, persuasive and assertive; capable of building trust amongst the partnership and wider stakeholder community
  • Experience of working in a legal and/or professional services environment
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours and travel
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus  
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibility
