Senior Human Resources Manager

Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP is seeking a Senior Human Resources Manager to join our New York office. This position will provide human resources support for lawyers and business services employees in the New York and Washington, D.C. offices. In addition, this position will also provide support on a variety of national projects within the People & Development department.  This individual is expected to formulate partnerships across the HR functions and the firm to deliver value added services to management and employees that reflect the core values of the firm while maintaining the business objectives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy with a focus on continued improvement
  • Manage complex employee relations issues; conduct thorough and objective investigations and offer recommendations for disciplinary action, performance improvement plans, and terminations
  • Provide day to day performance management guidance to attorneys and managers (e.g. coaching, counseling, etc.)
  • Develop and administer programs, policies, procedures and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the firm
  • Remain current on related subject matter and advocate for appropriate changes to policies and procedures
  • Deliver innovative solutions to meet firm needs; lead the development and implementation of a variety of human resources projects of broad scope
  • Manage performance management, compensation, succession plans, mentor and diversity  for assigned Business Services departments
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of benefits function
  • Advise and assist with firm compensation and benefit programs
  • Provide leadership and overall development of direct reports
  • Monitor trends, participate in area and industry surveys, analyze survey results, and make recommendations to management
  • Remain current on HR related and legal industry subject matter and advocate for appropriate changes to policies and procedures
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal & external customers, and vendors
  • Special projects within the People & Development department, as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Human Resource Management preferred
  • Minimum of ten years' related and progressively more responsible and broad-based Human Resources experience with a minimum of five years of leadership and management experience in a large, complex organization
  • Superior problem-solving and relationship building skills
  • Adaptable and flexible leadership style
  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles & practices of HR, including technology applications, HR regulations & compliance
  • Demonstrated skills in employee relations with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and use sound judgment in decision making; demonstrated ability to partner and influence at all levels in the business and to be viewed as a credible, valuable source of information and integral part of management team
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and oral
  • Strong organization and time management/project management skills necessary to prioritize multiple assignments and to meet set deadlines; ability to react quickly in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with all levels of management, lawyers and employees
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Integrity and good judgment when handling confidential information
