Legal Talent Resource Manager

The Legal Talent Resource Manager (LTRM) will play an integral role in the allocation of client work for attorneys in their first four years of practice within the domestic offices of NRF US LLP.  The LTRM role will focus on optimizing opportunities and effectively allocating work within the assigned attorney population.  The LTRM will work towards the goals of improving productivity and affording attorneys the opportunity to develop their legal skills and meet appropriate benchmarks and competencies.

The LTRM will report to the U.S. Director of Legal Talent Management and will work closely with firm leadership and senior Business Services team members.   As a member of the Legal Talent Management team, the LTRM will collaborate on performance management, global mobility and retention initiatives as they relate to resource allocation and staffing.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor within the LTM team and to group and team members to assist them in achieving business goals and performance metrics
  • Monitor associate utilization, create monthly reports for various constituencies, identify trends related to productivity and troubleshoot issues
  • Monitor time entry and enforce firm policy
  • Support allocation of work and the deployment of non-partner talent based on need and capability
  • Identify and implement appropriate solutions to correct low or excessively high utilization, pursuing equitable utilization across groups and teams
  • Manage potential resource escalations, making decisions on conflicting demands and other personnel issues as required
  • Proactively manage work allocation tools - including project management of implementation
  • Monitor the legal market and understand external trends that may impact the Firm's business
  • Lead and manage new resource management initiatives - including resource management measures that may assist the Firm in differentiating itself
  • In collaboration with Talent Development team, gather and maintain knowledge of individual skills, development needs, experiences and personal and professional goals, and apply this knowledge in resourcing decisions
  • Offer solutions to improve productivity and utilization. Work closely with Pricing Team and Legal Project Management on matter staffing
  • Support the performance management process for underutilized lawyers
  • Support the hiring, integration and retention processes of the Firm
  • Provide utilization and productivity information to the Practice Services team and highlight projected over- or under-utilization as appropriate
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Firm's strategic initiatives under the direction of Firm leadership

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; JD preferred
  • Five or more years' experience in a law firm or other professional services environment
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Proven experience in a management role helpful
  • Able to work under pressure, to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills essential
  • Confident, resilient, good interpersonal skills, comfortable interacting with a variety of personality types
  • Adaptable, analytical, innovative
  • Able to develop and promote solutions to challenges and issues
  • Able to form strong working relationships and gain trust with both partners and non-partners by becoming integrated into the working group

  • Ability to negotiate and reach compromises in a diplomatic way
