Benefits Coordinator

Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP is seeking a Benefits Coordinator to join our Houston office. This position will work closely with the Benefits Manager to administer employee health, welfare and retirement benefits.  The successful individual will have a strong customer-focused disposition to provide guidance and assistance to all partners and employees regarding benefits.

This position reports to the Benefits Manager in Houston.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain strong knowledge of the health and welfare benefits for all partners and employees
  • Respond to partner and employee benefit questions and concerns
  • Act as a liaison between vendors and HR
  • Conduct benefit orientation and explanation of all benefit plans for new hires and employee transfers
  • Maintain employee benefit information in the HR system including, medical, dental, vision, life insurance plans, disability programs and accidental death policies
  • Work with the HRIS coordinator to ensure that all benefit processes are working correctly, data is accurate and consistent; understand the benefit set-up procedure and processes including ACA
  • Administer the leave of absence program for the firm; ensure that all leave requests from lawyers and business services employees are handled in a timely manner
  • Support the administration of various employee benefit programs, and assist with the coordination of benefit initiatives
  • Investigate and resolve benefits claim issues
  • Work with the Benefits Manager to coordinate all aspects of annual enrollment
  • Prepare and revise announcement material to communicate new plans to employees, and arrange employee enrollment process
  • Maintain benefits information on the firm’s Intranet
  • Coordinate the processing of all short and long-term disability claims
  • Prepare and send COBRA notices to terminating personnel and manage cobra enrollees
  • Audit and process premium payments
  • Assists with HR initiatives and special projects

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Human Resource Management preferred
  • 2-5 years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in a professional services or legal environment
  • Strong communication, both written and oral
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively
  • Advanced user in Microsoft Office Suite, data entry skills, and ability to learn new programs and systems quickly
  • Experience with HRIS systems preferred
  • Highly organized with a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues and problems; recommend and implement solutions; and respond effectively to sensitive inquires and complaints
  • Demonstrated ability to work, manage and meet competing deadlines
  • Integrity and good judgment when handling confidential information
  • Ability to remain professional throughout stressful situations, and resolve problems with creativity, confidentiality and tact
  • Responsive, and ability to be available, including outside of regular business hours in an emergency or high priority situation
