The Team

Norton Rose Fulbright’s energy team includes lawyers from corporate, transactional, disputes, project finance and intellectual property practices.  We advise many of the largest corporations and investors across oil & gas, power and renewables on complex, high-stakes and multi-jurisdictional transactions, projects and disputes.

The Business Development Coordinator will provide support to US energy team on items such as client development plans, industry events and sponsorships, budgets, credentials, pitches, presentations, online content and publications.

The Role

Marketing and Business Development

You will support the energy sector lawyers on specific marketing and business development initiatives, which aim to monitor the legal trends of the industry and raise and maintain awareness of our practices in line with those trends and our strategic growth objectives. Specific tasks include:

  • Assisting with the development and execution of BD initiatives to target opportunities in specific work areas, sectors and locations
  • Monitoring business development budgets
  • Event support and delivery in collaboration with the in-house events team for industry conference sponsorships, client presentations and seminars, client dinners and other events related to the promotion of the practices

Client Development

You will assist with the identification and development of opportunities with global and regional key clients of Norton Rose Fulbright, as well as target clients within the energy industry including oil & gas, power and renewables. Activities include:

  • Producing bespoke bids, panel pitches and other client development presentations for energy industry clients. This involves drafting and editing text; coordinating contributions to opportunities (such as CVs, team details, experience, etc.), ensuring adherence to brand guidelines; and maintaining the library of practice relevant bid content
  • Conducting internal meetings regarding specific client or sector business opportunities and initiatives
  • Monitoring energy sector trends with an emphasis on the US and Latin America, and conducting sector or organization research
  • Producing and updating of energy sector experience statements, marketing collateral and brochures

Communications

You will ensure that all marketing communications channels are utilized to convey consistent messages about the practices, our capabilities and experience - including the development of the use of social

media - in consultation with the central communications and digital team. Tasks include:

  • Use internal communications channels in the US and, where relevant, at a global level to raise awareness of BD initiatives and opportunities
  • Coordinate with partners on the development and publicizing of thought leadership, client alerts and articles, in cooperation with the central communications team where necessary
  • Ensure marketing collateral is accurate and compliant with visual identity guidelines, working in conjunction with the central brand and design teams
  • Update relevant intranet and internet web content
  • Prepare and coordinate content for submission to legal directories

Business Development Systems

  • Coordinating contributions and input into business development systems including InterAction (contact management database), financial reporting, bids and experience databases for supporting initiatives such as bids, events, sector reporting, client intelligence, experience statement compilation, and legal directory submissions

Skills and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience working in a legal and/or professional services environment
  • Client service orientation and listening skills, diplomacy, and a natural sense of curiosity
  • Experience in the energy sector is a plus
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills
  • Proven organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities; must be comfortable dealing with ambiguity
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint and Excel
