Database Developer

This position in the Firm’s Houston office requires an organized, analytical and dependable candidate with strong SQL, HTML and programing skills.  The database developer will work closely with internal clients, analysts, and team members to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions.  The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with 3-5 years of experience in web development or a similar background who can quickly master the Firm’s current applications.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain existing applications
  • Design and develop new applications and test internally developed applications
  • Create and maintain database tables, views and procedures
  • Research development tools and techniques that can be applied to our environment
  • Independently research and resolve from beginning to end any data and technical issues related to various applications
  • Review data replication processes and make recommendations to improve data quality
  • Use data analysis and scripting tools to identify and resolve data integrity issues and automate processes
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed
  • Work with team to research, plan, install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain and upgrade software applications
  • Perform system administration duties such as data entry, support, maintenance, configuration, report writing, etc. for various applications
  • Create technical documentation and evaluate existing documentation for completeness and accuracy
  • Review and analyze existing application effectiveness and efficiency to develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems
  • Provide recommendations and technical assistance on new and existing applications
  • Use technical skills to develop tools and applications to support business objectives
  • Ensure that development projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements and identify and resolve system issues
  • Understand the overall business strategy and requirements for the firm and for specific departments

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or related field
  • 3-5 or more years direct experience in full life cycle software development
  • 1–2 years of practical experience with: Microsoft SQL Server platform, SSIS, T-SQL (Transact SQL) stored procedures and triggers
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Strong programming skills
  • Knowledge of ColdFusion, Ajax and/or jQuery are a plus
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell and batch files, etc.
  • Experience in business process analysis, software design, and requirements definition and documentation
  • Ability to translate requirements into code
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact well with people at all levels of the organization
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and proven ability to adapt to new systems quickly
  • Ability to adjust priorities and execute tasks in a high pressure environment
  • Excellent time management, organizational and basic project management skills
  • Ability to understand existing business processes and assist with efforts to re-engineer processes
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information to draw conclusions
