The Role

The Unified Communications Specialist in our Houston, Texas office is responsible for the proper functioning of communications and collaboration technologies, solutions and software that are used throughout the enterprise. This includes telephony and customer contact management technologies and systems, interactive multimedia communication technologies, and overall human productivity technologies and solutions. Uses expert knowledge of specific technologies and a broad understanding of other technologies and applications to provide leadership when new approaches are needed to solve difficult problems. Stays current on trends in the industry and makes recommendations for changes and improvements.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administration and engineering of Lync/Skype for Business platform
  • Create and maintain automation of legacy domain single sign-on (SSO) for business transformation projects
  • Troubleshoot Lync federation inconsistencies
  • Develop and continually improves procedures, standards and methods including normalization rules for global offices
  • Evaluate the operational characteristics and usage trends of installed systems and software by utilizing available tools to monitor and manage reliability, availability and performance
  • Work with those that support client applications to identify and resolve issues to maintain operating efficiency and work quality
  • Troubleshoot complex operational problems including Lync dial plan issues and automation failures
  • Implement Lync Call detail recording (CDR), Call Quality Methodology  and enhancements to the dial plan
  • Participate in developing the architecture for individual projects related to communication and collaboration systems. Use frameworks developed by enterprise architecture and ensures that business solutions support enterprise architecture strategies.
  • Lead software and solution installation, configuration, and maintenance following established procedures and change control standards
  • Work with other divisions to assist with accomplishing their business objectives; shares knowledge of potential business impacts of infrastructure to critical business functions
  • Provide coordination of efforts across offices and business areas for projects and day-to-day operations

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and/or 3-5 years related work experience
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, initiative in decision making and problem resolution
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Lync/Skype for Business
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of one or more communications and collaboration supported technologies including: messaging; web/media server; multimedia customer contact technologies (call centers, web chat, email, etc.); multimedia productivity solutions (video conferencing, web conferencing, virtual meetings, etc.); unified communications and telephony technologies; mobile messaging technologies and solutions; office productivity tools and solutions; virtualization technologies; and tools to support and maintain these technologies
  • Extensive knowledge of network design and configuration
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Operating systems and features
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of capacity planning methods in communication and collaboration system environments
  • Demonstrated experience using software development languages and tools to integrate communication and collaboration technologies with other applications and business systems
