The Dallas (preferred), Austin and Houston offices are seeking an attorney or patent agent with up to seven years of experience to join the IP Transactions and Patent Prosecution practice area. The candidate should have relevant prosecution experience along with the ability to prepare patent applications. Staff Counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright receive sophisticated work and firm-supported training and supervision. Staff Counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright are not on a traditional partnership-track, however, they enjoy practicing law for sophisticated clients without some of the pressures or responsibilities that are associated with a traditional partnership-track positions.

Staff Counsel will be located in Norton Rose Fulbright's Houston office. Compensation for Staff Counsel will be based upon market factors, but base salaries generally start at $85,000 and depend on experience.  The candidate should also be admitted to and in good standing with the Texas Bar.  Candidates should note to which office(s) he/she is applying and submit two (2) writing samples.

Responsibilities for Staff Counsel positions at Norton Rose Fulbright include, but are not limited to:

  • Handling all aspects of written discovery;
  • Preparing motions and other pleadings;
  • Attending hearings;
  • Taking depositions and preparing depositions summaries;
  • Client reporting, including the preparation of status reports; and
  • Some document review and legal research

Qualifications and Experience

  • Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA accredited institution;
  • Must be licensed to practice law and in good standing in Texas;
  • 2 plus years of litigation experience
  • Excellent research, analytical, problem identification, and resolution skills;
  • Superior attention to detail;
  • Proven and demonstrable dedication to work product quality;
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work both as part of team and independently with appropriate supervision; and

Willingness to occasionally provide after hours, overtime, and weekend support, if needed

The ideal candidate should have general commercial litigation experience, including drafting briefs and other pleadings, handling discovery, and tackling complex factual and legal issues.
